Today is a day that shall live on in infamy! Or some such.
Anywho – Update: Total sales for the week ending 9/8 = 292.
So a small drop off from previous weeks. Which is only to be expected as the book gets a tad bit stale and people start to wonder if there really is going to be a sequel put out there anytime in the forseeable future. Which is why!
I’m hoping to finish the last editing pass and come hades or high water put the second book, Admiral’s Gambit up for review by amazon Tonight!
Meaning if I get it up tonight, 12 hours later, essentially tomorrow noon or a tad earlier, after amazon gets done approving it, the Gambit should be available for your viewing and reading pleasure!

I want to encourage you to keep up the writing. I really enjoyed this book and gave it a great review on Amazon. I am so looking forward to the second one. Your writing carries off a type of humor that many try but few actually accomplish very consistently. Don’t feel the need to rush the books out though–we can wait until you’ve got it right.
You managed to keep the jokes and inuendo coming while still telling a very good story. Also, I really appreciate an author that doesn’t feel the need to put in f-bombs, etc. My son and I read alot of the same books and we read around a book a week on average (sometimes more.) A great storyteller can get humor, grit, nuanced characters, and character flaws all done without using jarring language. I know a lot of marines, navy, and soldiers and the bad language isn’t as universal as some folks believe (John Scalzi for one.)

I agree with Richard up there. I read lots of books, but if they are dirty, I don’t review them or star them. Wish Amazon had parent’s advisory section like IMDB, which they own.
Anyways, I loved that book and I hope you bump your price up to 2.99 for the next, cause, its killing me to read your numbers and multiply them by 35 cents! Otoh, thats more than The Beatles made per record.

Thank you for the review. The book can use all it can get on that front and as an Author its important to know what people are thinking about it.
As for the humor, most of the best writers have some kind of humor thrown in there to leaven the bread or add seasoning to the soup.
As for the language. I don’t naturally go that way. I think in the original draft of Admiral Who there were a grand total of two swears thrown in there and after going back through it we nixed those in favor of alternate language. Colorful language does not necessarily have to equal course and vulgar.
Not that I can’t see myself writing stuff with some course language thrown in there. But especially with these books, under my sons name, I intend to read them to my boys some day and thus want to keep them clean enough I’m not embarrassed to read them aloud before bedtime.
People commenting on how clean the language is, only makes me more willing to go back to nuke the occasional ones that slip through. That’s not to say I can guarentee a 100% cleanliness ratio, something might slip through, but clean and mean is my goal!
As for publishing… you can go back and go back adnosium and so on and so forth. But at a certain point I have to just put it out there and declare the move, so I feel free to hammer in on the 3rd book full bore.
After it gets out there, the brother and possibly one of my sisters are going to go back and try to clean up some of the random errors in the Who? and any we don’t catch prior to publishing in the Gambit, then we’ll reload. But I think the 2nd book should be more error free than the 1st. At least that’s my hope.

Hey todd, thanks for the comment. Already addressed the mutual desire to keep this series language clean as I can manage.
Also glad you liked the first book. So far the reviews from the Beta readers have been positive. One said, “I’m hooked.” another “Deeper, better, great read.” So as soon as you get the chance to read it, put up a review and let me know how Admiral’s Gambit stacks up next to Admiral Who?. I’m under no illusions that my stuff is perfect. There’s always room for improvement. But if I’m ever going to get to the point I can write full time…
Well like you pointed out, 35 cents a copy just isn’t going to push me over the finish line. So in answer, yes: the second book is going to up for $2.99. I think I should get around a dollar fifty per copy off of that one. I’ll let you know once I get some more tangible results.
Regardless, I can only hope the response to book 2 is as exciting as the last two months with Admiral Who?!!!!

Just downloaded the book and eager to start reading. A little thing that kind of bugs me is that the font it’s using is Courier and not very pleasing to read. Didn’t see any settings to change this locally on my device, just font size and margins, no control over the font. I’ll be reading your book regardless of default font, though the only font more annoying than Courier in my opinion is Comic Sans.

I think we went with Times New Roman for the sequel, which is up on Amazon now. The plan is for myself to go back through and re-edit Admiral Who? in the coming weeks, and when we’re done we’ll probably use Times New Roman for its updated version.

That solid block of text Amazon spat back out was just about completely unreadable. So I uploaded another copy around 7pm. As of midnight the changes are now up. So while the paragraphs are now double indented. At least there are paragraphs! And the font is back to times new roman. Somehow between all the file changes, word automatically changed it from times new roman to the courier stuff. And when I cut and past the first two sentances of the book… well lets just say that while everything except those two paragraphs was times new roman, Amazon’s ‘AI’ changed it all to what you saw earlier today.
You should be able to reupload with the new and improved file!
